Venla’s Valentine Day

Family

It is Valentine Day here in the Philippines. It is a big day for the people in this country. It is afternoon. My daughter Venla is at home from school. Teachers spending time in their families as this is very much a family day. They are probably getting ready to go out to eat tonight. The busiest day of the year for the restaurants in Dumaguete, a restaurant owner told me once. We are in the garden. Sun is […]

Painting Day

Diary

While studying at the art university I used to be creative and draw and paint all the time. Now working on the computer all day I miss those creative, offline experiences. So I recently grabbed all my art supplies and started painting a bit. It’s so much fun and a very relaxing and calming task, I love it!

Weekly photo for my team in London – Sand writing in Hong Kong

Street photography

Hong Kong. Busy Sunday morning in Kowloon. Thousands of people walking in streets packed with electronics shops selling hundres of different smartphones models, Nikon and Canon cameras, lenses, TV sets, laptops, ipod, ipad, tablets. Iphones can be unlocked at the corner of the street. In all this a lady was writing using white sand on a red plastic blanket laying on the street’s asphalt. People stopped by, used their smartphones and took pictures of the lady who, I thought. […]

A peaceful moment in Larantuka

Diary

I have always liked to go to visit churches, pagodas, mosques when travelling. I like sitting there and observe the people who come to pay to  a God, a profet, a teacher. Those are peaceful places where I think it is possible to some extent to connect and feel the presence of the belief and faith people have. Last October I was in Larantuka, on the island of  Flores (Indonesia), to conduct a study on […]

Branches in b&w

Diary / Street photography

Branches b&w, a set on Flickr. Was in Cremona (Italy) over new year. Was back in winter after a long time. Since I have been living in Southeast Asia for the last 10 years I felt I was not used to the shapes and lines that barren trees draw on a winter sky. Was nice to be back during winter again.

Winter sunday in Assen, Holland

Diary

On our way back from Italy to the Philippines we did a stop over of 24 hours in Assen (Holland). We visited our friends Connie and Ignas. It has been five years since we say good bye in Phnom Penh and now we met at their place. Cambodia is still a strong link with many people we know and who lived there when we lived there. It was a short visit (too short)  but it […]

Gingko biloba at the University House @ANU

Diary

Gingko biloba at University House, ANU Canberra, a set on Flickr. So this great Gingko tree in the rear garden at the ANU University House in Canberra. There was a nice evening light. Some elderly people, maybe former professors at ANU,  were having a summer drink at a table nearby. Nicely dressed. Tall white wine glasses on an elegant table. Nice summer atmosphere.
