About Me

Hi, I am Arnaldo.

I’m Italian and have lived abroad for about thirty years, now in Tampere, Finland. I’ve been keeping this journal since 2004. It began as short written posts; photographs arrived later.

There have been long stretches of photographs with just a title, periods of only black and white, periods of only colour, and weeks of nothing at all. An irregular journal, following my life and my moods. The constant is places, people and landscapes — where I’ve been and where I’ve lived — described in words and photographs.

I work as a researcher and consultant in international cooperation, and have spent two decades living in middle and low-income countries working on democratic governance and social development. My work has taken me to live for several years in Nepal, Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Indonesia, and to travel in many more. In 2018 I co-founded Capability, an international consultancy working with foundations, donors, governments and NGOs on adaptive learning, evaluation and systems thinking.

I started with a Nikon D5100, which I used for about five years. In 2015 I began experimenting with Micro Four Thirds and an Olympus E-PL6. I liked the format, sold the Nikon, and bought an Olympus OM-D E-M1. I now use a Panasonic G80, which is easy to live with. I edit in Apple Photos.
