About Me

Hi, I am Arnaldo.

I am based in Tampere (Finland) and am an enthusiastic photographer and writer. I have spent two decades working in middle and low-income countries as a researcher and consultant on democratic governance and social development. I have lived in Nepal, Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia through my work. Living in these countries and travelling in many more has put me in touch with different languages and cultures.

I work as a researcher/consultant in international cooperation. My work has brought me to live for several years in Nepal, Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia. In 2018 I co-founded Capability, a social enterprise focused on systems innovation and the design of adaptive portfolios to tackle complex development challenges. I write about my work on Knowledge Counts.

This blog is a journal that has evolved over the years. When I started it in 2004, I wrote mainly short posts. Then, I began adding photos to my posts at some point.

There have been long periods where I have just posted photographs with a simple title. I have had periods where I posted only black and white pictures. Sometimes when I posted only colour photos. There have been times when I did not post anything for weeks.

So, an irregular journal that has followed my life and my moods. The constant theme are the places, people, and landscapes that I have seen and where I have lived in different parts of the world and which I have described through words and photography.

Swimming training, a set on Flickr.

Nice evening watching the swimmers of the Dumaguete Blue Dolphin Club training and practicing all the four style. I had my zoom lens but the light was a bit low. Did not want to push the ISO too high or use flash. I like how the pictures turned our. They seem abstract paintings to me.
